Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘…And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Matthew 28:18a, 20b
The risen Christ appeared to His disciples in Galilee and spoke to them the powerful words of the Great Commission. He challenged them to make disciples of all nations. But He also assured them they were not alone in their journey. His very presence—the Holy Spirit—would go with them. He is also with you and me.

Mario is an inmate who is a long way from his homeland of Guatemala. As a teenager he came to the United States seeking asylum and a better life, but veered down the path of crime along the way. I enjoyed conversing with and ministering to Mario when he was in the Newton Correctional Facility. Though he was transferred to a different prison, Mario knows that Jesus is with him wherever he goes. The presence of Christ empowers him to follow Christ and make disciples, no matter what his location is.

God enables each one of us to minister in our communities without going to the other side of the world. We can share the love of Jesus and make disciples right here. And as we do, we can be sure Christ is always with us.
