“The blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them. But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did … they were indignant.”

Matthew 21:14-15
I read about a seminary professor who worked from a home office and had a second door knob installed at a lower height on his office door. It was placed there so his children could reach it easily and have access to their father at any time. As a guy who often is irritated at interruptions, I find that remarkable!

Thankfully, God doesn’t respond as I do. Take note of something in the story of Jesus cleansing the temple. Jesus—God in the flesh—had recently received accolades from the crowd. He was driving out the money-makers from the temple when a group of blind and lame people came to Him for healing. He didn’t send them away because He was busy doing something very important. He healed them right then and there.

This gives us a look into God’s heart. He values those with disability. In compassion, He grants them priority access. This is good news for all of us because we need healing from our spiritual blindness. Our ability to love has a limp, so to speak. But our disabilities do not hinder our Creator from drawing near to us.
