“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”

James 1:5
Most fishermen realize they have a limited number of days to engage in their passion. Some approach that time with the desire to simply enjoy what they find rewarding, unconcerned about thoughts of learning or growing in the process. Others see it as a valuable opportunity to increase their skill set while enjoying a good gift from the Lord. So basically, one approaches fishing with hopes of progressing; the other is indifferent.

As believers, we are called to grow in wisdom and to see that every day is an opportunity to mature spiritually. We continually learn how to love God and others well. What’s great is that God knows we struggle to live wisely, so He encourages us to ask Him for help. Like a good father, He delights to have us come to Him. In fact, He is glorified through coming to our aid.

The call to Christian maturity is not something we can be indifferent about. As His children, we are to display the character and nature of Jesus to those who do not know Him. This is impossible without Him, but guaranteed with Him.
