“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

Mark 12:30-31a
When I joined a hospital staff as one of its chaplains, my boss said there were two priorities for me. First, show patients and staff the love of Jesus. And second, show them that you care about them. The years I spent in this position were not always easy, but what a blessing it was to represent Jesus as the anchor and hope to those facing illnesses and critical medical situations.

The instructions I received from my hospital supervisor echo what Jesus Himself told us in Mark 12. Love God and love one another. Jesus goes on to say, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another” (John 13:34-35). Loving God with our whole being becomes evident in our love for one another.

Set your mind on this. Carve out personal time with the Lord for reading Scriptures, praying, and worshiping through music. Listen to sermons. Get together with other believers. Your love of God and of His people will grow.
