Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. Glory in his holy name….

1 Chronicles 16:8-10a
In the ACTS acronym for prayer, we come to the T, thanksgiving. Having looked to the Lord, we began with adoration. Against His holiness, we saw our sin and responded with confession. And because of His forgiveness, we now are filled with thanksgiving.

In today’s Scripture reading, David celebrates the presence of the Lord as the Ark of the Covenant comes to dwell in Jerusalem. He and the people offer praise for the wonders of the Lord. Note that his praise comes not from just what the Lord has done for him but also for who the Lord is (v. 26). David expresses love and adoration for the character of God, profound thanks for the salvation of His people.

We too can sing out with David, “Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad… ‘The Lord reigns! (v. 31)’” Thank your great and wonderful God for who He is and what He has done. He created us for Himself; He set His deep love on us; He rescued us from death by sending His only Son to save us. In your prayer time be overflowing with thanks for all He has done!
