“And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts.”

1 Chronicles 28:9
We know that a well-tended and nourished inner life with God is of great value to us. David challenges his son to nourish his heart and have a willing mind to obey God. This was vital as Solomon would build the very temple of the Lord and rule over a kingdom based on the worship of the one true God.

David assured Solomon that if he sought the Lord, the Lord would be found by him. He heartened him with these words: “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the LORD is finished” (1 Chronicles 28:20).

What reassurance this must have brought for Solomon! When you are faced with the often-overwhelming challenges the world presents, know that God speaks to you as a loving father to a child. We have the same assurance David gave to his son Solomon: that God knows us well and promises His presence. Seek to have a willing mind that will go where He is leading.
