“How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!”

1 John 3:1a
Sometimes people get stuck trying to grasp the concept that God is infinite. And as in any case, when our focus is on only one attribute of God, we lose sight of His other qualities. Recently, someone who was focused on God’s infinite quality alone told me, “I’ve heard that when God looks down on us, He sees us as little insignificant ants crawling around.” I’ve run across comments like this before. But when you come to know the God of the Bible, you see that this is not at all how He thinks of us. We are not “ants”; we are His beloved children!
The nearest I can come to understanding the love of God for us as His children is to think of how I love my own children. If I could increase that love again and again, somehow making it a perfect love that does not fail, does not stop, and does not diminish, then I’d be approaching (at least conceptually) the love of God.
How amazing that our Father bestows His perfect, boundless love on us! In truth, we are more near and dear to Him than our own children are to us.
