"As for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight."
(PSALM 16:3, ESV)

Psalm 16:1-3;
Matthew 5:13-16
Though blinded by a fraudulent doctor at six weeks of age, Fanny Crosby not only never resented him, but considered her blindness God’s providence as it enabled her to write her hymns of praise undistracted. She didn’t begin that work until age 43 – after a career in teaching the blind – yet produced 8,000 hymns, up to seven a day. She harbored no bitterness over losing her father not long after she lost her sight, or over losing her own daughter in infancy, describing herself as “the happiest person living.” Fanny loved her Savior with her entire being, and praising Him was truly her story and her song.

Whenever we are blessed to observe a life overflowing with Christ, we’re refreshed by the person’s company and encouraged from a deep well of God’s grace to become all that He created us to be. Fanny Crosby helped to bring – and still brings – sight to so many who are blinded by sin. May we become so rooted in and close to Christ that we help further brighten a world largely lost in darkness.
