"A new command I give you: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another."
(JOHN 13:34)

1 John 4:7-21
In the hey-day of communism in Bulgaria (Christianity was to have been eradicated from its borders), a local man said to me when I visited there, “I love Jesus. Do you?” I assured him that I did. He took my hand and squeezed it. So hand in hand we walked down the street in Sophia, two people living in such opposite worlds yet loving one another because of Jesus’ love for us. It struck me that the kingdom of God is a kingdom infused by His almighty love. God’s love is the glue that holds us together.

The kingdom of heaven is a fellowship of love – love for God and for one another. The only meaningful division among people is of those who love Christ and those who do not. That love refuses to be blocked by the walls people build to protect themselves and what they own, to identify their enemies and to dominate others.

In Jesus all walls except the wall of sin have been made inconsequential. And those whose sin is cleansed in His blood make up a new kingdom where only one thing matters: following Jesus Christ.
