“Jesus asked, ‘Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?’”

Luke 17:17-18
If ever there was a biblical character to be counted as “the least of these,” it would be the one Samaritan man who returned to Jesus out of gratitude when cleansed of leprosy.

In this story we find Jesus traveling to Jerusalem and met outside of town by ten men with leprosy. They all cried out for Jesus to have pity on them. He, in turn, told them to go and show themselves to the priests, as the Levitical law required of them to prove their healing. While they walked along, a miracle happened: they were healed! Just one of the men (a Samaritan, at that) returned to Jesus to thank Him.

The faith of the men was evident as they confidently asked and boldly went on their way before even being cleansed. They trusted in His power and obeyed His command. But wouldn’t such a magnificent renewing of their lives cause them all to overflow with gratitude?

Don’t forget that unlikely fellow who called out to Jesus to do for him what he could not do on his own. Remember that Jesus has washed your sins away, and your gratitude should pour out, too.
