"The centurion replied, 'Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word,
and my servant will be healed.'"
(MATTHEW 8:8)

Matthew 8:5-13
I sat in the office of a commanding General of the US Army on Okinawa. He had come to faith in Christ in a Bible study while serving at the Pentagon. Now he was charged with huge responsibilities. Criticism was coming at him within the military as well as from Okinawan residents. He said, “I have nowhere to go but to seek Jesus for His help. My need is great!” I prayed with him for God’s comfort and strength. There is some similarity between this and the story of the Roman Centurion in today’s passage. The Centurion, commander of many soldiers, asked Jesus for help. In humility he said, “just say the word.” Jesus responded, and this man’s servant was healed.

God is pleased when we humbly come with our impossible situations. He wants us to seek His heart for resolution and help. Jeremiah writes, “Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you” (32:17). It is God’s nature to be pleased when we bring Him our need.
